| What
if you went to the hospital to undergo the most serious surgery
of your life, and when you arrived, you were ushered into
a prep room and whisked off to surgery without a thorough
physical exam and pre-operative lab work? Seems pretty unlikely,
right? Well, in veterinary medicine, we too are performing
surgeries that are very serious and potentially life threatening.
A physical exam allows us to determine the status of many
body systems. In addition, we routinely do laboratory work-ups
designed to check the pet's blood for anemia, total serum
protein and values reflecting liver and kidney function.
Occasionally we
find pets that have no history of illness but have abnormal
lab values. In these cases, we contact the pet's owner and
make special arrangements to reschedule the surgery, perform
further tests, or alter the routine techniques we use to anticipate
even more potential complications.
All of this is
done with the care and safety of your pet in mind. Incidentally,
many veterinary hospitals also perform laboratory testing
prior to surgery. But we include the cost of pre-operative
lab work in our standard fees. The "package price"
is one more way that we delight clients at Oasis Animal Clinic
