| I
am the founder of Oasis Animal Clinic. I am a native of Arizona,
growing up in Prescott. I grew up on a ranch and spent many
hours as a kid riding horses and doing chores. That is when
I realized that animals are both companions as well as stewardships
for which we must take responsibility. I decided to become
a veterinarian, expecting to move back to a small town and
join a mixed animal practice (large and small animals). While
attending Arizona State University, I began working in some
local veterinary clinics and found a fascination with small
animal medicine and surgery. I was drawn to the client-pet
bond and the awesome opportunity veterinarians have to affect
the quality of lives of pets and their owners. I knew then
that this was the area of veterinary medicine that I wanted
to pursue.
I attended Washington State University and graduated in 1982.
Returning to Arizona, I opened Oasis Animal Clinic in December
of that year.
In 1991, we moved
from our original location on Dobson and Elliot Roads to our
present location, here next to PETsMART.
We have assisted PETsMART by providing care for pets in the
low-cost vaccination clinics as well as in other ways. Besides
being responsible for directing all the activities in the
clinic, I still enjoy seeing patients several days each week.
Watching
this practice grow and develop is really amazing. I am very
grateful to have such an awesome team of doctors and staff
to provide care to so many patients and their owners.
On the personal
side, I am married to Marilyn Richardson Tenney and together
we have 5 sons. We live in Gilbert, where we have three dogs,
Boomer, Jake and Jamie, as well as a cat, Don Juan. My kids
love pets and some of them may one day join the practice as
veterinarians. From time to time, some of you have met our
kids working around here or at the vaccination clinic. The
oldest, Rhett, just returned from a two-year mission to the
Philippines. Gary is now serving in Brazil and Troy and Trevor
are beginning to work here as well. Marilyn recently completed
her Masters Degree and is a Professional Counselor.
My interests and
hobbies are scuba diving, playing racquetball and computers.
I also enjoy reading and volunteering time for church and
other organizations. All of our family (over 12 years of age)
are certified scuba divers and we love to travel and dive
as a family. We have been able to see many beautiful areas
and create vivid memories thanks to this sport.
