Dursban

News Release:

EPA to ban chlorpyrifos (Dursban /Lorsban).

One of the common insecticides used in the fight against ticks and fleas is being removed from the market. USA Today states:

For decades one of the most widely used insecticides, chlorpyrifos is found on everything from pet flea collars to garden and lawn chemicals and indoor bug sprays. It also has been used widely in agriculture to protect fruits, vegetables and grains from insects.

Dursban is a ingredient found in MANY products. This is one more reason that we recommend you consult Oasis Animal Clinic for the latest information on the best products to prevent and treat flea and tick infestations. For some time we have recommended the use of Frontline™ (a product completely different than over-the-counter products) for tick and flea prevention. To date, we have seen very few pets that have not responded completely to this product. And it contains no dursban and is safe.

As a prescription item, it is available only through veterinarians. We may soon be able to provide it to clients at the Low Cost Vaccination Clinics held at PETsMART.
